United Way Community Fund
Contribute to the United Way Community Fund and your dollars will be pooled with many others. This allows the United Way to allocate money to area agencies, like these below, who are making significant community impact.
Contact: Lisa Park Laflin, (207) 778-5048. Provides partial funding for programs that serve upwards of 12,000 people in Franklin County, Livermore and Livermore Falls. Whether they are babies or seniors, homeless, or youth in crisis, United Way and its partner agencies help people from all walks of life.

Increasing Independence and Overcoming Disabilities:
Literacy Volunteers serving Franklin & Somerset Counties
108 Fairbanks Rd., Farmington, ME 04938. Contact: Joan Moes, (207) 778-3460. . United Way funding helps to provide reading instruction to adults on a one-on-one confidential basis. Programs are also offered in family literacy and teen tutoring.
Rural Community Action Ministry
81 Church Hill Rd., Leeds, ME 04263. Contact: Gil Ward, (207) 524-5095. . www.rcam.net. United Way supports housing and homelessness programs including housing rehabilitation, shelter and financial and technical assistance.
United Methodist Economic Ministry
1458 Salem Rd., Salem Township, ME 04983. Contact: Kay Webb, (207) 678-2611. . www.gbgm-umc.org/umem. United Way provides funding for outreach and assistance with basic needs, including housing repairs, food, clothing, and fuel in Northern Franklin County.
Western Maine Transportation Services, Inc.
76 Merrow Rd., Auburn, ME 04210. Contact: Craig Zurhorst, (207) 333-6972. . United Way supports the Community Rides Program which allows WMTS to provide public transportation in Greater Franklin County to those who otherwise would not be able to access medical and other critical services.
Work First, Inc.

Responding to Emergencies:
Abused Women’s Advocacy Project

United Way funding supports the Franklin County Outreach and Community Education programs. These programs provide emergency services and support for victims of domestic violence, including court advocacy, support groups, children’s and youth services, and emergency shelter.
New Beginnings

United Way funding goes towards assisting adolescents through the Farmington Outreach Program who are in crisis due to unstable living situations by providing emergency shelter and support.
Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services (SAVES) PO Box 349, Farmington, ME 04938. Contact: Judy Rawlings, (207) 778-9522. . www.savesrapecrisis.org. With funding from the United Way, SAVES provides school based sexual assault crisis intervention, prevention and support services for all of Franklin County. United Way funds a broad spectrum of sexual assault and prevention education services to teens through the School-Based Intervention and Prevention Program.
United Valley American Red Cross

Helping Children and Families:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin and Oxford Counties

Franklin County Children’s Task Force

United Way funds a full range of community education efforts that prevent child abuse and neglect, including ‘Baby Think it Over’ and ‘Nurturing Fathers’ program. United Way funding also supports the Growing Healthy Families home visiting program.
Western Maine Community Action

Promoting Physical and Mental Health:
Community Dental

Funding from the United Way allows Community Dental at the Farmington location to provide dental services, dental health education and emergency care to children and adults who otherwise could not afford them.
Healthy Community Coalition

United Way funds the Mobile Health Unit Outreach program at the Farmington Wal-Mart, which provides free health screenings, information and education to Greater Franklin County area residents.
Tri-County Mental Health Services

United Way funding improves access to mental health services for those who otherwise could not afford them. Services are provided for people of all ages at more than 20 locations, and in schools, hospitals, businesses, and in the community.
Assisting the Elderly:
Health Reach Network/Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

United Way funding supports RSVP’s efforts to engage retired people over the age of 55 to make productive and personally rewarding contributions to communities, through volunteering with non-profit agencies and organizations that make a difference.
SeniorsPlus

United Way supports the Meals on Wheels Nutrition program for Greater Franklin County, which ensures older, isolated adults receive regular nutrition and social interaction.
