THE FRANKLIN VOLUNTEER NETWORK (FVN) is a collaborative of volunteer managers and community members who promote volunteer opportunities and support the volunteer sector through training and communication.
The Franklin Volunteer Network(FVN) was launched in the mid 1990’s. With the support of the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, Maine Commission for Community Service, the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Maine Community Foundation and Network members, the Network has grown significantly. Meetings are open to all and are held the second Friday of every month.
The goal of the Network is to promote volunteerism and volunteer opportunities, serve as the catalyst for addressing challenges and opportunities in the volunteer sector, promote collaboration, and empower those who informally manage volunteers, or whose professional responsibilities include volunteer management.
This group has been gaining momentum, securing substantial funding through the Volunteer Generation Fund. Administered by the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, this grant allows FVN to build the capacity for sustainable and effective volunteering. Specifically these funds will help:
- Develop a one-stop volunteer center to connect community members with diverse and meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Engage a paid volunteer center coordinator.
- Continue to celebrate volunteerism through an annual Volunteer Recognition Event.
- Provide training opportunities for volunteers and volunteer managers.
- Coordinate a peer-to-peer network of volunteers and managers that meets regularly.
In 2010, 3,883 volunteers who are connected with the Franklin Volunteer Network donated 210,499 volunteer hours in Greater Franklin County. This equates to $4,388,904 in community volunteer hours invested!
