United Way of the Tri-Valley Area Announces 2009 Campaign Chairs
and Kicks Off
2009 Campaign
 September 17, 2008

The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area is pleased to announce that Charlie and Chandler Woodcock of Farmington will lead the organization’s 29th Annual Campaign this fall. Chandler is known for his dedication as a long-time educator and coach in the region, and as a recent gubernatorial candidate. Charlie is the director of Franklin Health Access, a program that helps uninsured and underinsured Franklin County residents access health care.

Lisa Laflin, Executive Director of the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area said, “Charlie and Chandler are well known in the community and have tremendous experience and expertise to lead the United Way to reach a campaign goal of $395,000. The Board of the United Way and I are thrilled to have such compassionate and skilled community members help the United Way raise funds that greatly impact our surrounding communities. Funds are allocated to valuable health and social service agencies, known as community partners. These include SeniorsPlus, Literacy Volunteers, Western Maine Community Action, the Franklin County Children’s Task Force and many other organizations that assist vulnerable populations.

This year’s Campaign Kick-Off will be held on Wednesday, September 17 in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine, Farmington. The event will run from 11 am – 2 pm. This is a chance to visit with the community partners United Way dollars support and meet United Way staff and volunteers as well. There will be free steamed hot dogs, light hors d’oeuvres, and music by Native Oak.

The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has undergone a rigorous assessment process this year to prioritize where the money that is invested in our surrounding communities goes. It is focusing on immediate human needs, including fuel, food, housing, medication and clothing. Additionally, it will allocate resources to programs that serve the elderly and children, those that promote well-being through free health screenings, education, home care and mental health support as well as programs that provide transportation services.

In a challenging economic climate, the need to invest in our surrounding communities is even greater. This year’s campaign represents an unprecedented opportunity to make a significant difference.
